Search by name precision; a name that is generic (as is the case with, e.g., ABC LLC) will produce lots of search results, and you should add other search filters, whenever possible.
The easiest way to locate the entity (less ambiguity) is by the number of the entity.
You may save or print the result page in case you need to use it in reference to contracts or in the legal context.
In case you need a document (such as certificate of good standing) go to the SOS site on the way to order or download such.
Status (active/expired): If you are not sure about it, you can look at whether or not the entity has filed something in the recent past or if it has submitted an “annual list” filed (annual reporting is required by many states).

In the case of foreign entities (entities organized outside of Nevada, but registered in the state of Nevada), the info can include an additional type of foreign entity – check additional filings.
Remember that local city/county licenses do not coincide with state entity registration; registration with SOS does not necessarily mean that the local licenses have been obtained.
